Nothing equals The Birds for sheer terror when Alfred Hitchcock unleashes his foul friends in one of his most shocking and memorable masterpieces. As beautiful blond Melanie Daniels ('Tippi' Hedren) rolls into Bodega Bay in pursuit of eligible bachelor Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), she is inexplicably attacked by a seagull. Suddenly thousands of birds are flocking into town, preying on school children and residents in a terrifying series of attacks. Soon Mitch and Melanie are fighting for their lives against a deadly force that can't be explained and can't be stopped in one of Hollywood's most horrific films of nature gone berserk.

"The Birds" is a story where there is no moral, no logic and seemingly no end to the horror that nature has in store for mankind. Even as the characters drive off in the end, you still have that sinking feeling that they aren't going to make it away safe. Hitch planned that. He delighted in maki

This classic got the treatment it deserved... - 4.75 out of 5 (7/23/2000)
If you make a movie that is an instant classic, it will get that style of class and treatment it deserves.
This was the second movie by Hitchcock that I saw. (Obviously, Psycho was the first). This was the first DVD that I bought without having seen the movie first, and I was very pleasently surprised.
On top of getting an excellent transfer, you get a great collection of extras including trailers, newsreels, screen tests and a full length featurette. Its extra bonuses like these that mak

THE BIRDS is coming - 4.5 out of 5 (4/28/2000)
Following the success of the Collector's Editions for both PSYCHO and VERTIGO, THE BIRDS has flown in courtesy of Universal in a wonderful package well up to its predecessors. First up the film comes in its true screen ratio (widescreen) and is an eagerly anticipated anamorphic transfer. For diehards, whose only acquaintance is with the frequent TV outings of the movie, the result on DVD is stunning. The quality of the original stock is showing its age, but the effect of the movie in stunnin
